With Piggles and Malcolm the mallard
Piggles
Listen old bean. I’ve been flying around the UK and been shocked at how my fellow pigkind - and duck and chickenkind for that matter - are being treated. If you have a strong stomach you can watch my film here.
I don’t like to admit it but I got quite upset. So I popped along to Viva! to ask them what factory farming is all about. It’s about squashing animals like me (well may be not me as I am rather special hey what!) into quite dreadful places. My fellow pigkind are sobbing inside. Mothers are crammed into crates to give birth and then have their babies taken from them at three weeks old. And as you can imagine, their piglets do not want to die. They are full of joie de vivre, playfulness and curiosity. And did you know that we pigs are clever chaps and chapesses? We can outwit a mutt any day! Even Lassie!
If you care about animals you can change things. Just by going vegetarian you will save over 11,000 animals in your lifetime! Yes 11,000 Piggles and Jakes and Berties (Viva!’s turkey friend)… So what’s stopping you old bean?
Choose your Fruity Fundays now! And find out how many animals you will save!
So what did Viva! tell me about factory farming?
Malcolm the mallard
Hello. I’m Malcolm the mallard. I try to take care of Piggles when he is out and about rescuing his fellow kind but he is strong willed and impulsive and doesn’t really listen to my warnings when he is in danger! We’ve been friends forever. I fly with him across the UK looking at factory farms. You won’t believe this but they actually farm essentially wild animals – ducks – yes my cousins – in factory sheds.
Would you like to save Jake?

Everyone knows that ducks are water animals. We eat, swim, dive, clean and play in water. But my farmed friends are denied it entirely except for drinking. Without water, we can’t preen and our feathers deteriorate. We may also develop eye problems and even blindness. They squash thousands of ducks into each shed and kill them at just seven weeks old. Next time you have a Chinese – choose veggie!
